Making sense of frankincense – IFRA UK Fragrance Forum 2016

As thoughts turn to Christmas and the Three Wise Men, one of the  presentations at the forthcoming IFRA UK Fragrance Forum will look, not so much at the fragrance aspects of frankincense but at the medical and therapeutic attributes of this ancient and precious gift.

Dr Mark Evans, a Lecturer in Biomedical & Medical Science at the School of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, De Montfort University, Leicester, will start his talk with an overview of what frankincense is and its historical, non-medical, context.

He will then describe its use in traditional medicine and potential use in modern medicine focusing on the anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties of its primary bioactive components, boswellic acids.
