Spices, balsams and the incense of temples:

Delving into the Fragrances of Ancient Egypt at the IFRA UK Fragrance Forum 2016

One of the most keenly anticipated presentations at the IFRA UK Fragrance Forum (12 October at The Royal Society London) will be delivered by the Egyptologist, John J Johnston (pictured).

This heavily illustrated lecture will address the fundamental prominence of scents and fragrances in the elite culture of ancient Egypt as part of a one-day symposium  which is on the theme: Do you smell well?.

The presentation will consider the ways in which religion, status, and magic coalesced with the rather more prosaic remedying of the realities of life within the sweltering, bustling Nile valley to raise fragrances and their raw ingredients to a higher status.
